Would You?

BRANCH2-articleLarge I have been fascinated with these guys who climbed up El Capitan. That tent! OMG! I have a slight fear of heights. I used to try to jog over the George Washington Bridge, but the whole time I would keep thinking about how easy it would be to fall over the railing. Actually, it would be pretty hard to accidentally fall over the railing. You would have to climb over it. But my brain would keep replaying a trip that got a lot of height and catapulted me over the edge.

So, there is absolutely no way that I could do this hike. The tent makes me nauseous.

I’ve been reading Cheryl Strayed’s book, Wild, this week. It’s extreme hiking, which doesn’t sound as frightening. I can deal with blisters. Not bashing my head against rocks.

  1. Not in a million years. I feel the same way about feeling like I”m going to fall off bridges. And, I’ve decided I’m old enough not to care.

    1. Unlikely, since people live at altitudes higher than that. I’m not sure how one would refine the accomplishment to set that particular record.

      1. Lots of these places have strict “carry out” rules for solid waste, too. It sounds gross, and probably is, but I guess you can get used to pooping in a bag.

As for the other question, there’s no “could” in my case, so I don’t worry about “would”. I think it might be neat to be in the tent, if it’s strong enough and a good clamp, though how I’d ever get in to it isn’t obvious.
