Pattern Perfect

Hello, Darling! She just needs a martini and a cigarette.

There’s a whole market for old dress patterns.

In the flurry to clean out my Aunt Theresa’s house, there was a cupboard in the basement that was PACKED with patterns going back to the 1940s. I grabbed a box full of them, but the rest went into the dumpster. I had exceeded my junk storage capacity.

There were hundreds of patterns in the cupboard, I randomly picked out one pattern, which was in  its original envelope. It turned out to be the pattern for my mother’s wedding dress. I framed it for her.

  1. That’s a real treasure trove: pity you couldn’t snag more. I also notice that the vintage size 16 expects a 34 bust and a 37 hip measurement: a fair bit smaller than what you’d find today for a size 16!
