Is Oscar Murillo the new Jean-Michael Basquiat?
Rich people have to put their money somewhere. So, they look to the art world for a place to park their money and hopefully triple investments. This Columbian artist may be the NEXT THING.
“Untitled (burrito)” recently sold for $322,870, more than six times its high $49,000 estimate.
I got to make me some burrito paintings.

I like abstract art and am a fan of supporting experiments. Jackson Pollock is actually quite difficult to replicate if you try seriously, and there’s a lovely analysis of randomness in his paintings that shows something of why. But, all I can say about this painting, is seriously?
I do think this kind of purchase is purely boys playing games with lots of money, as in the NY times article about art collecting as a competition (and that’s without citing the role of art being a good money laundering scheme, presumably both for drug lords and oligarchs stealing money from their country and people).
I hate that kind of art collecting, though I’d respect someone if they told me that this painting actually spoke to them aesthetically in some way.
