We go somewhere every weekend. We are incapable of chilling in the house for more than a few hours. Next year, our family must learn to stand still. In the past few weeks, we’ve been apple picking …
We’ve been to a Medieval Fair…
We’ve played video games in an art museum …

When my daughter was born, I used to fantasize that we would spend weekends together in the library. Alas, she turned out to be a very wiggly, active and not particularly bookish child, so my fantasies went unfulfilled. When she was young, we went to child-oriented historical sites or the like, and when she was older, we went to soccer and basketball games. And now she is at college, and I can go to the library every weekend.
Now, remembering Anaktoria when she is away,
I would rather see her sweet walk
And the shining sparkle of her face
Than all the chariots of the Lydians
And the foot-soldiers in their armor.

Our weekends seem dominated these days by sports schedules (and we aren’t particularly a sporty family). But, I guess we do like to nest over the weekend, and sports schedules keeps us from doing all the other stuff (since we can’t just get away and nest somewhere else).
We saw that video game exhibit too! At the National Portrait Gallery/American Art Museum, which is one of my favorite museums.
I’d insisted that we were going there, without much agreement from the little boy. While eating lunch, I, thinking I was making things up, told him there would be video games at the museum (I was lying, I though). But then, we arrived at the museum, and the Art of Video Games exhibit was there. It was magical. It’s now a family story.
