We took the boys to Yankee Stadium last Saturday. Jonah knows more about European soccer than American baseball, but he enjoyed the game just fine. Ian loved eating hotdogs in the stands and following the video screen chants.
Jonah was the only teenager in our corner of the stadium. Mostly, it was middle aged suburbanites and geezers. Where are the teenager baseball fans?

They are at the little league fields. (6 days out of 7 this week, we have a game or a practice….)

We’re seeing a spike in kids playing baseball — seems to be attracting interest among the kids we know because it is more rule bound and less fluid than soccer or basketball or hockey (the other three sports our kids play). The kids are physically capable (can run, for example), but don’t seem to be as comfortable with the chaos of the other fields.
(not, incidentally, for our son, who has yet met a sport that he doesn’t love. He’s excited this morning because he gets to participate in his first swim meet, after all of 3 workouts and not having taken any swimming lessons in over two years. It’s an interesting personality and I do not understand where it comes from.)
