I have read precisely none of the academic literature, but many bloggers (Megan McArdle and I think Marginal Revolution) are skeptical about the studies that show significant long-term benefits from pre-school education. Maybe you and Megan McArdle could write a point/counterpoint on that issue. That would be more interesting than the political issue, at least to me.
