SOOOO embarrassed as a Canadian. The fourth largest city in North America is led by this buffoon.
Can’t WAIT for him to be out.

I had no idea Toronto was the fourth largest city in North America before Ford, if that makes you feel better.

It does a little…
Mayor Ford resulted from the amalgamation of the suburbs with the city proper. His platform could be reduced to being against the perceived “latte swilling elites” who live in the city. The ‘burbs (805 area code – called the 905’ers) voted for him and the city proper voted against him.
More of that “man of the people” idea twisted around to somehow ignore the fact that you actually need a certain skill set to run a large city.

So glad my city is providing the world with something. Sigh. I did not vote for him, but sometimes that just isn’t enough. Toronto does have a history with this kind of thing though. Mel Lastman was on his way to Kenya to promote an Olympic bid when he told the press he was worried he’d be boiled in a pot by African natives. His wife also claimed to have been kidnapped for 10 hrs, was arrested for shoplifting…and then Lastman’s mistress sued for child support for the two kids he had with her. I didn’t vote for him either.

His mistress’s children are obviously entitled to support. And if your wife is filing false kidnapping claims, you may need a mistress for support.

Mel Lastman: “nooooobody….” – he was a low end furniture salesman/biz owner before being mayor.

It’s a myth that the suburban 905-ers pushed Ford onto the liberal urban 416-ers. But it’s the sad reality that electing someone who’s all slogan and showmanship leads to a huge leadership deficit in Toronto.
Macleans has a pretty good investigative piece on Ford that was in the works long before this video surfaced and it’s an interesting read: http://www2.macleans.ca/2013/05/24/rob-fords-appetite-for-destruction/

Although leftwing/NDP Trinity-Spadina cast 24% of its votes for Ford (my old ‘hood), here’s the split showing the city went for Smitherman and the rest for Ford:

He ran an effective political campaign but net net, he’s not capable of running the city. I think that the myth is the idea that someone with little experience or education can somehow be able to govern a city the size of Toronto.

I dunno, I feel like “Canadian Municipal Scandal” is up there with “Worthwhile Canadian Initiative.”
