The Staten Island Ferry parking lot is the cheapest one in NY City, I think. In many ways it’s best to park there and then take the ferry into the city.
Several years ago, for my birthday, my wife got us a ride on one of the sailboats from the South St. seaport. It was really fun. (It would have been more fun if we would have known beforehand that we could bring wine and food and the like.) It was a bit hard because the day to go kept getting changed by the weather, but I really enjoyed it- I’d never been on a sailboat before, and the feeling in the water was completely different than in a boat with a motor. I’d recommend doing it some time if you can.
