I just recovered a bunch of very smart and funny comments from my spam filter. SORRY. Typepad is not the best blogging system. Please let me know, if your comments are getting eaten and I'll fix it. At some point, I'll invest a grand into this blog and soup it up, but not just yet.

I unloaded my Typepad blog and imported it into WordPress with no problems, comments and all. I’m very happy with the result. I almost went with a site on wordpress.com, but then found that a local ISP provides the wordpress software on their servers, so I used that instead.

I won’t claim smarts or wit but I have written comments lately that have been swallowed up in the ether. Perhaps because they were written on my phone or iPad mini while we were traveling.

Yeah, I found them and pulled them out. I have no idea why this is happening.

We’re posting too often? That could have been an issue with my comments. I’m thinking this isn’t something that gets fixed by spending money, though, but is instead an every present glitch as people try to filter every growing and ever more sophisticated spam.

I just pulled another seven out of the spam folder, including one of mine. Got yours, too, Geekymom. I’ll try writing a complaining e-mail to Typepad.

A few of mine (at least one that I’ve discovered you retrieved) succumbed to that. The failure behavior is this: from the laptop I use for work (running Ubuntu 12.04 and Firefox) after posting a comment the page just refreshes, as if your comment was correctly posted. There is no CAPTCHA challenge. On the other hand, from the desktop machine I use for both work and play (Ubuntu 10.04 and Firefox) I’m prompted with a Captcha screen and then the comment is actually posted.
I’d assumed that my work laptop was just extremely effective and ditched my blog comments when it could tell I was goofing around.

Crap — it just happened again on my desktop machine! I wonder if it’s some cookie issue — that because I commented successfully earlier it attempted to remember and silently re-submit my captcha?

Strange, that one got through fine. Time to give up and head to bed.

I put in a complaint to Typepad. I guess they installed some new spam system. If they don’t work out the kinks soon, I’ll follow Tomslee to WordPress. I am dreading a day’s worth of work on it.

MH, you have won the internet often enough that anything you write is automatically waved through.
