After all, the Downton world is mostly full time: either full time work or full time leisure. The maids and footmen don’t get a weekend, they get an afternoon off once a week and perhaps a full day once a month or so. Farmers don’t get a day off, the cows need milking twice a day regardless and if the hay is ready on Saturday, you get the hay in before it rains on Sunday.
Can’t get past the sad still of Matthew Crawley to get to the Dowager. (sob)
