This story made me cry.
Danny called me that day, frantic. “I found a baby!” he shouted. “I called 911, but I don’t think they believed me. No one’s coming. I don’t want to leave the baby alone. Get down here and flag down a police car or something.” By nature Danny is a remarkably calm person, so when I felt his heart pounding through the phone line, I knew I had to run.
When I got to the A/C/E subway exit on Eighth Avenue, Danny was still there, waiting for help to arrive. The baby, who had been left on the ground in a corner behind the turnstiles, was light-brown skinned and quiet, probably about a day old, wrapped in an oversize black sweatshirt.

Made me cry, too, especially the parts where the judge was taking the educated risk that the man in front her would be the best father for the child, and when she got to celebrate the wedding of the parents of that child. Amazing how the world has changed, no?
NFL stars, Mariott, Mars company, Citibank, writing amicus briefs in support of marriage equality. Even ten years ago, would you have thought it possible?

It’s breath taking to me that just 30 years ago, I had friends so deeply closeted that I would be their “date” for weddings, work events, and family stuff.
Now, my children attend school with children of openly gay parents. I work with people who are have no trouble just casually stating their sexual preference – “my girlfriend” “my husband” in water cooler conversations. It’s wonderful. Congratulations to this family and all the families like them who now live in the light.
