I love dated museum displays. This display of the many varieties of beryl comes from New York's Natural History museum. The rocks and minerals display is a time warp of the 1970s with dark lights, brown carpeting, and a sunken hang out area with more brown carpeting.
Beryl is pretty though.

I LOOOOVE the geological displays, particularly the one in the Smithsonian’s Natural HIstory museum in D.C. because it was renovated (but I loved it too back in 1993 when I spent two weeks walking around that city on my own). I remember the one in NY’s Natural History. Pretty dark, I must have been there three or four times. Thanks for sharing this photo. I love beryl, but opal is my favorite (saw it for the first time back in 1993)…

My husband’s hallway is lined with even older geologic displays. It’s some grad student’s job to dust the rocks. The collection belongs to an emeritus prof who won the MacArthur eons ago. Mr. Geeky had the nerve to suggest moving them. He got upbraided. 🙂
