  1. This is probably closer to a variation on the “real dolls” than cabbage patch dolls. Somebody has once again artificially triggered strong human emotions in ways that make me want to avoid talking to strangers on the bus just in case.

  2. my husband’s uncle’s wife has nearly 20 of those dolls. Four-five years ago she used to post photos of them in her facebook (actually in “orkut” which was the favorite of Brazilians years ago), as if they were real babies. She featured images of them “playing” together, with different clothes, hair-styles, etc. “Sick” stuff, seriously!! One day me and my SIL sat down with a pad of paper and we wrote down the names of her sixteen babies. These days she doesn’t post many photos anymore, but I know that her collection has probably grown. When I went to check the price I was even more upset. Sigh… P.S. apparently she’d put them in car-seats and take them to stores with her too.

  3. I blogged some of the ad copy for one of those hyper-realistic dolls a couple months ago (they are very pointed about this not being a toy).
“She turns toward you with a look of pure love!”
“Touch-activated to look up at you as you hold her in your arms”
    “…Chloe responds to your touch!”
“Few things are as precious as the first time your baby responds to your touch by turning her little head towards you with the most trusting, unquestioning love that only a baby can give!”
“Feel her soft RealTouch skin, wiggle her little toes, smooth her delicate wisps of hair, and experience that special bond that only you two share every time she looks at you.”
Is this all MILese for “When are you kids going to give me grandchildren?”
