90 Minutes of Productive Time

10VACATIONjpSUB-articleInlineI was really pleased to read that article in the Times yesterday, which estimated that people were productive in 90 minute chunks. After that, they really need a nap.

I've been doing a fair amount of reading about the writing habits of writers lately. Even the most productive say that they can get about three hours of good work done in one day. They do other things, like editing and answering e-mail, during the day, but the actually writing is so painful that it can only happen in three hour blocks.

My day was broken up with lots of phone calls today. I was planning on going into the city to see a book reading tonight, but the roads are icing up and mom isn't thrilled about driving over here to babysit. A friend was planning on meeting me. Steve had to get home in time to take Jonah to CCD. So, after a ton of calls, the plan for tonight was scrapped.

All those phone calls meant that I didn't get enough writing done. One more 90 minute burst of work and then I'm hitting the sofa to read another Young Adult book.
