Apt. 11d 
Day 3 of schools closed and the Mommy Wars are gearing up. Trick or treating was moved by the Borough from today to Saturday. The schools moved the Halloween parade to Friday, and the Borough then reversed to say that Trick or treating would be Friday after the parade.
Now the battle lines are drawn between pro-Friday (all one day, girls soccer is Saturday afternoon, and people are going out of town Friday night because next week is fall break) versus pro-Saturday (working moms can’t re-arrange their schedules to get home by 2 on Friday!)
There are already promises of civilly disobedient candy-begging on th Wrong Day! I wonder if Gov. Christie can divert some of the National Guard here to keep the peace.

And . . . Governor Christie just postponed Halloween state-wide until Monday. I assume Big Daddy has thereby imposed peace on the Mommy Wars.

Nope. Mommy wars are back on, as the mayor invokes whatever the municipal equivalent of “state’s rights” is to trump the governor.

Laura’s been on Twitter via her phone. They’re fine but lack electricity, and there’s no gasoline in New Jersey.
Two friends in Jersey, one near Philly, one in Somerset County, got power back within minutes of each other this afternoon, so I’m hoping for Laura’s sake she gets hers back soon.

Tim, is the situation not improving, or did something bad happen? She sounded like she was at the limit of her patience with the lack of electricity/heat. š¦

Laura is posting on her twitter feed.
Nothing bad seems to have happened, just the continuing drag of no power + dropping temperatures. I have memories of dealing with the drag after the disaster (snow storms + loss of power) and I remember the 3rd-4th day being the time when you really couldn’t just soldier through it anymore (and, that was without kids).
We’re too far away to be of any local assistance to NJ, but I hope people who are closer are reaching out.
