We were having lunch in a restaurant in New Bern, NC, when a tornado warning was announced on the news. I wish I was the type of person who fearlessly gets dressed up and eats lunch alone at a bar with a book. I'm not.
Tornado Warning
Leave saving the world to the men? I don't think so.
If you take out the “gets dressed up” part I could fit the bill.

I wish I was the type of person who could do that without children and husband and dog holding on to the car while I was trying to drive away.

As a follow-up, I desperately needed to finish reading a book for a new course I’m prepping, so I put a note up on my bedroom door saying “I am not here. If you have any questions or problems, speak with your father” then I closed and locked* the door.
*Fruitless. Apparently a Q-tip inserted strategically into the lock will open it.
Our house is too small for me to have an office, so my bed is the office.
Then I overheard the kids complaining to their father that I am the only one who wants to move to a bigger house. No one else wants to move. They are perfectly happy where they are. *sigh* Of course.

It will get bigger when they move out.

I used to get dressed up to eat lunch at bars alone. Because I was alone I almost always had a book with me. Although in Southern California having a book with you at a bar was considered very odd behavior since evidently none of the population in that region seemed to know how to read. I hear literacy has only gotten worse since then.

I love going out for brunch on Sat. or Sun. by myself. I don’t always take a book, sometimes I just people watch.
I also love traveling alone. It lets me skip the hyped stuff and spend hours in a flea market. If I want to take the local bus instead of a bus tour, no one complains. I also find that I meet and talk to locals more when I am alone and I have often had someone show me their favorite places and restaurants. Traveling alone is freeing.
