How could nobody have stopped her?
I think that in many cases where it looks like something crazy is happening, people’s reaction is to think, “Well, that looks like something crazy happening, but no one else is doing anything, so someone must have said it was okay, or it must not be crazy, despite what it seems, or else someone would be doing something…” I’ll admit to not being immune from this line of thought at times.
This was an old fresco painted by a not-so-excellent artist. It took him 2 h work. It is not a master piece… The fresco was in a very bad state. It was going to disappear soon. The priest and the cultural authorities were not concerned. Now they are thinking to sue her. This old woman just tried to help. Obviously the result is terrible. The fresco is destroyed. But it was it fate anyway. It is hypocritical from the authorities to seems so worry now. The old woman has an anxiety attack that she does not deserve. Let the woman in peace – an away from the brushes- in the future.
Other than the authorities, the Spanish people are all supporting Dona Cecilia. She has provided us with something to laugh about for some days. News are being depressing for the last 1 year and a half…
Apparently there’s a petition going around to keep the fresco as is, and people have pointed out that more tourists would come to visit the ‘improved’ fresco than to see the original, which wasn’t very special. I have to say, the more I see the new one, the more I like it.
How could nobody have stopped her? Were they all afraid of her or something.
