Midweek Journal

I'm being a little selfish with my time this week. I am  spending very little time on the computer. I'm still recovering from last week's insanity. Ian's home and needs a companion. And everything is just so lovely outside.

Yesterday morning, I forced myself to do laps around the block, because I put on a ton of weight over the winter. For one neurotic afternoon, I convinced myself that the only way that I could get THAT fat was if I was pregnant, even though it was extremely highly unlikely from a strictly biological point of view. But never being one to allow rationality to interfere with good neurosis, I imagined being the oldest living mother in New Jersey for several hours last weekend.

I'm beyond that now. Hence the early morning laps.

I'm also working on the never ending job of killing suburban shrubbery and English Ivy. At some point, I'll be able to plant new things. I look forward to that day.

Ian and I invented some new pool games yesterday, including one called "Don't Send Me to Canada!"

I did plop down on the computer a couple of times yesterday to catch up on the SCOTUS geekfest. I also read a ton of tributes to Nora Ephron. (I never liked her movies. Shhhhh.) I appear to be the only woman in the tristate area who never recieved advice from Nora. I feel so left out.

This morning, I'm taking Ian to a different swim club in a different town. I will be making a carb-free meal tonight. And I may or may not get  on the Internet again.

  1. After the insanity of my past week (vacation in Pennsylvania), I don’t want to leave the computer! But I have a sty of a house, I have to go to a workout, and my daughter’s dance recital is tonight. She is also having a birthday party Sunday evening, which will involve an Avengers theme and possibly walking over to the highway overpass at 9 to watch the fireworks.
I also have to figure out how to make Avengers-themed cupcakes without using fondant, which I hate and believe is cheating. 🙂

  2. I was just ordering horse birthday plates, horse temporary tattoos, and was this close to ordering a 43″ horse Mylar balloon for a 10th birthday. We’ve just moved, so we’re just inviting one other family for a trip to the water park, lunch and cake at home. The eventual plan is to switch C’s room from coral-reef themed (her choice when she was 5) to horse-themed. I think a new comforter and some wall decals will do the job for now.
Agreed on the horrors of fondant.

You could point out that the top mount for Beezie Madden, one of the top US Show Jumpers (and probably on the Olympic team this year) is named Coral Reef Via Volo, and try to merge the two together.

  4. Not sure why it’s selfish to spend less time on the computer :-).
Fondant is clay, and not a food substance. I think they should stop the pretense and just use clay on top of their creations.
I’m trying to convince myself that buying cake icing sheets + edible ink (to use on a never used dedicated printer that I happen to have lying around) would actually be a reasonable to do.

It’s a totally reasonable thing to do, if you have the space and promise solemnly to use it at least twice a year. If you don’t use it for a year, you have to get rid of it. 🙂
Now, nobody ask me when I last used my ice cream maker.

  6. Matt,
I think there was at some point talk of combining the undersea and horse decorating themes, but C hasn’t mentioned that recently.
Oh, and I realized later in the day that I’d been Amazoning the birthday supplies to the house that we just moved out of. Oops.
