I'm fascinated by addicts. Here's one story by a woman who eventually, after a lot of failure, stopped drinking. And another story about a woman who hasn't quit yet.

Oddly, movies/TV about addiction are too much for me. (The baby scene in Trainspotting, the teenage girl in Traffic, Bubbles’ homeless kid friend in The Wire). But I have read quite a few alcoholism books and found them fascinating – my faves are Pete Hamill’s “A Drinking Life” and Caroline Knapp’s “Drinking, a Love Story”.
Knapp’s story is interesting because later on her best friend wrote a grief book about her untimely death, “Let’s Take the Long Way Home.”
