  1. Thanks to Memorial Day, my husband was able to stay up and thus we could watch it live Sunday night. Right after what was arguably the greatest ep of Game of Thrones ever. By 11 pm, we were just sitting there, gobsmacked by two hours of very different but equally great tv.

  2. I can’t get that amazing episode out of my mind, nor do I want to. “Wow” is right, Laura. Full stop.
So far none of the recaps I’ve read have been able to get it quite right. The Bloomberg one you linked to summarized Joan as “a single mother who sleeps with a client to get ahead” – and really, while true, that just misses the mark completely. There is so much texture and nuance to this show, I can appreciate the difficulty in fully processing it. I still don’t know what to make of it. Mostly, I’m perplexed about the Roger/Joan angle. At the beginning of the ep, he offered Joan financial support for Baby Kevin and she turned him down. Hmm…
I’ve been enjoying Emily Viviani’s pieces arguing that the album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club band is serving as a structural and thematic template for S5, here:

  3. I was just poking fun at the wide range of quality of movies he has made – he himself admits that to renovate homes he has taken whatever role offered. And always turns in a good performance no matter the quality of the movie.
    He’s the British Gene Hackman.
Will try harder at the dry quip – no inflection makes it tricky…
