Moving Jonah

The kids are home this week. During weeks like this, I have learned to give up control of events and let things happen as they happen. Because of a late start out of the house yesterday, we ended up at the Cloisters, instead of midtown Manhattan. Which was just fine, because we got to see the Lewis Chessmen. I also got to take lots of pictures of great gardens for inspiration.

After sauntering through the museum and the gardens, we walked around the park. Ian carried around a dragon puppet that he chose as an early birthday present from the gift shop. Jonah kicked his soccer ball around, because simply walking in a straight line is way too boring.

  1. your family outings look a lot like ours, museums, gardens… I can’t really think of other families of our acquaintance that take their children to those places on a regular basis.
Now, when I read your posts, I really wish we lived closer to NYC and that we had gone there more often when we were in Philly. But the boys were much younger then, so now would have been the perfect time to so that & we’re so much farther away. 😦 the boys have had some good outings in NYC, though… we’ve been to many playgrounds in Central Park, they went up the Empire State Building in 2009 (without me! 😦 ), & we went to see Kandinsky at the Guggenheim (Dec. 2009) which was AWESOME (Linton had just studied Kandinsky in Art class in his cyberschool’s kindergarten)… but that’s about it. I have yet to go to the renovated MoMA & take them to the MET (*I* haven’t been back there since 1997!!). Sigh. Every year I say, “this summer, this summer” but we end up not doing it. I’m trying to convince K to go to a conference at NYU in May so we can spend at least half a day in the city.
P.S. sorry for “breaking the rules!” :p (comment longer than the post), but I just had to write/think about NY a bit… motivated by your post.

I wasted to much breath trying to get mine to at least walk in a straight line down the jetway, but he won’t not swerve.
