Adele was just awesome last night. Also, Jennifer Hudson. (Here's Dolly singing that song.) Alicia Keys and Bonnie Raitt did a fabulous tribute to Etta James.

Leave saving the world to the men? I don't think so.

I thought it was a really good show. There was enough diversity in the performing acts (Glenn Campbell-my kids “who is that?” to DJ Mou5-me “who is that?”) to make it a really fun show. I loved all the performances, but really was surprised to see the limited number of awards given out on camera. I was also disappointed we didn’t get more of a tribute to Amy Winehouse. She won an award which her parents accepted, wouldn’t it have been great to see that?

I enjoyed it. I may be the only person who liked the Nicki Minaj number, though. And I was a little underwhelmed with JHud. And really, fuck Chris Brown and the people who cheered him. I do’t think that can be said enough.
I’m surprised how sad I am about Whitney. Was never a big fan, but she is part of the soundtrack of my youth.

I watched with my kids, and we muted Chris Brown’s performance (they had never heard of him) so I could explain why he was never a person we would support in our house.

Chris Brown is a latter day Ike Turner with a better manager and PR person.

Even Vulture, (the entertainment section of nymag), tweeted during the show that Chris Brown’s performance was “time for a bathroom break”.
Fun fact: Adele’s new beau, Simon Konecki grew up, partly, in Ridgewood, NJ. (first the east side, then the west). He was my favorite playmate in my pre-school years and our families stayed friends until his moved back to Brighton when we were around 11 years old. His mother is an unforgettably strong-willed, sincere, loyal, and opinionated person. (I can imagine Adele might have been nervous when she first met her.) It’s been a trip to see him front row and center at the Grammys! I wonder what his Mum thought as the camera caught his bright white and *untucked* shirt over and over again.
