Fall Plans

Every September, the kids return to school and bring new germs into our home. Combine those germs with rotting fall leaves and damp earth, and we have the perfect recipe for a sinus infection. It's my little fall ritual. I'm fighting back the urge to submerge my entire head in this steaming cup of tea on my desk.

But even head colds can't get me down, baby, because I suddenly realized that I don't have to keep the house neat for potential buyers. I'm not packing for 15 hours straight. I finished filling out paperwork for new schools. While I'm not finished unpacking the boxes, I have done enough. Which means that I can work again. Wahoo.

Last spring, I wrote four chapters and a proposal for an unnamed book. I had to set it down for three months. I picked it up for the first time yesterday and started making serious edits. It felt good. I have two other projects that I'm working on — none of which actually pays money, but they keep me amused. I think my goal for 2012 is to translate work into money. It's a novel concept for me, but I have high hopes.
