I did sort of like that movie, but it was always hard for me to get past the fact that in the original story, “the quiet man” was supposed to be a little guy, and that’s why it was such a shock that he’d been a champion boxer in the US who could now kick the ass of the local thug. If the guy in question is John Wayne is more or less spoils that aspect, and that was really the whole point. (In some ways it was even worse than having John Wayne play Genghis Khan, though of course less bad in other ways.)
