More Snow

The robocalls from the school district woke us up at 5 am. Early dismissal. Again.

Opinion about this snowfall is massively divided among my facebook buddies. There are jubillant teachers on one side and the working moms on the other.

I have to compress a day's worth of chores into three hours. Supermarket. Home depot. Writing. Productivity ends when the school bus arrives.

I was planning on driving into the city today to see Pioneer Woman give a book reading at Barnes and Noble in Union Square. I'm fascinated with her as a business woman. Did you know that she has 62,000 subscribers to her RSS feed, while the top political bloggers have between 5,000 and 14,000?

I also have a weakness for the farm porn that she puts on her blog. All that bucolic ranching and prarie goodness. From time to time, Steve and I fanticize about ditching suburban life for an organic farm in upstate New York. But after this winter, I realize that I'm not cut out for the isolation. I'm craving the noise and activity of city life. I'm ticked off that my plans to meet up with some friends and listen to some campy writing about farm life has been aborted.

Well, there will be lots of noise and activity in a few hours when the kids return, so I'll write one more blog post and then head out into the blizzard.

  1. I just canceled my classes today, even though we also had a snow day last Thursday, so it will be a week and a half that I will have seen my lit students. I live only 7 miles away from work, but it’s still a bitch of a drive on slick roads, and I don’t need the stress. I’ve already canceled my 7 am class tomorrow morning (most 7 am students are not dorm students; they commute and have jobs, and I am not sending them out onto snowy/icy roads in the dark of night), so my goal for today is to set up an online activity for them to work on.

  2. We got a just before 6 AM text from school, saying that it was cancelled. I got ready for by babysitting baby to come over and then got a last minute cancellation (my kids are really disappointed). The college is still open. The kids and I will probably bike over to Starbucks for hot chocolate later today.
All this disruption is on the strength of 24 degree temperatures and a 50% chance of precipitation (i.e. snow).

  3. What teachers are you friends with? We are in panic mode around here at girls’ k-12, having already canceled a day of exams, a couple of delayed starts, and some missed days. So much to do and increasingly little time!

  4. When you are in uncomfortable position and have got no money to go out from that, you will have to receive the mortgage loans. Because that would help you for sure. I get car loan every time I need and feel myself fine because of this.
