This is excellent wedding video fodder and the bride clearly loved it, but I have to point out that this is the song sung after Tevye agrees to a match between his daughter Tzeitel and the butcher Lazar Wolfe, a match which was not destined for success.
(My mom had the Fiddler on the Roof soundtrack on vinyl when I was a wee thing, so between that and my dad’s Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson, I grew up right.)
Also, the Russians who are singing their wish in the song that everybody live together in peace (or their near relations) later appear to wreck Tzeitel’s wedding to Motel the tailor.
Whew. At first I thought that a number of random wedding guests just happened to be able to perform a musical as a toast. It’s a relief to realize that the groom is the author of a hit Broadway musical.
I think the world would be better if more people broke into song more frequently (unfortunately, I can’t contribute, because the world would not be better if I broke into song more frequently).
