Jonah needed a tie last year for a choral show. I didn't know how to make a tie knot, so I went to the Internet. YouTube had about a hundred how-to videos on making a tie knot. It was actually very helpful.

Couldn’t he have just worn a bow tie?
(Everybody knows how to tie a bow tie–it’s the same knot as shoelaces.)

A bow tie may be the same knot as shoelaces, but I’ve never tied one that looked right. I’ve spent a few hours trying because I didn’t want to wear a clip-on with a tux.

Hours well spent, MH. Because then you can choose an appropriate time to untie the bow part and just leave the first part done. Very debonair.
(Bonus trivia: left- and right-handed people tie the main tie knots differently. My dad is right-handed, and a right lot of trouble it caused. Fortunately, my son is left-handed.)

For the record, I never got the bow tie close enough that I was willing to leave the house with it and I wore the clip-on. For several occasions.
(On the other hand, my son is not backward handed like my wife, so I shouldn’t have Doug’s father’s problem.)
