Years ago, I stumbled upon a blog called, Belle de Jour, which chronicled the life of a London call girl. It wasn't a regular read of mine, but the few posts that I read were fairly interesting. The author turned her blog into a book and outed herself. Turns out she's a scientist, who got into the other line of work while she was a starving grad student.
Just passing along this information for some of my old grad-school friends that I saw this weekend. Guys, here's an alternative to the 4-4 adjunct salary.
Who says that academics aren't entrepreneurial?

What i like about that link is that the poster says “This is the kind of thing that can only happen in England” (when of course it’s not). I’ve lived in England for 10 years and never heard anyone say that – Americans, of course, say and write it all the time, even about things that most certainly could happen elsewhere.

It seems like something similar can and has happened in the US – I stumbled across this history from the University of New Mexico: http://www.dailylobo.com/index.php/article/2009/11/lawsuits_filed_over_professor_posing_on_sex_site (Just in case you wondered, I was looking for a factual description of the Elizabeth Lambert story which made it to this side of the pond).
But surely, this couldn’t possibly happen in Scandinavia…
