The Power of Genetics

There's a scene in Season Five of the Wire where McNulty sits down with a criminal profiler at the FBI. The expert gives his psychological profile of a serial killer, and, since the serial killer is a figment of McNulty's imagination, the profile bears an uncanny resemblance to McNulty. McNulty looks uncomfortable and annoyed that the FBI nailed him so perfectly

Whenever Jonah's fourth grade describes Jonah's strengths and weaknesses, I think of that scene.

  1. Does the description remind you of you or of the teacher?
When I was 10 or 11 I had my portrait sketched by a street artist. My dad said the picture looked more like the artist than like me.

  2. We have a saying in my house (family of origin house): “You must be some relation to your [insert relative whom you are acting like].” Usually, I heard it as “You must be some relation to your father.”
Yes, we strive to create original people, but they keep ending up looking like ourselves. 🙂
