I’m just a girl who can’t say no. You’e got a job, a job that involves a lot of hours and no money? Sign me up, baby.
Yesterday, I gave a lecture on local government. It was a mega-two and a half lecture on how local governments work and the challenges that face local communities today. I usually give a break in the middle of the 3 hour and 15 minute class, but yesterday I went straight through, so I could let the class out early. By the two hour mark, I was getting light headed. I won’t do that again.
Somewhere in that class, I might have even been explaining the governance structure of town politics, my cell phone went off. I have to keep it on, just in case the school calls with an emergency. It was John, a neighbor. He wanted to know if I was interested in running for the town council.
I spent most of the day weighing the pros and cons. On the one hand, it sounds like a lot of fun and a big ego trip. On the other hand, I’ve got so much on my plate right now. And it might distract me from the ultimate goal. So, I said no.
It’s too bad that one really needs to sleep, because there are way too many fun things to do than I can fit into one day.
