Michael Berube has an excellent analysis of the candidates’ position on disability policy. Great content with laugh out loud snark.
I would like to add one more item to the policy wish list — subsidized childcare for with disabilities. Most childcare centers will boot out kids with issues. Although the ADA prohibits facilities with federal dollars from discriminating against those kids, there are gaping loopholes. Public schools don’t offer after care programs for kids with disabilities. It is difficult to find babysitters willing to watch a child with disabilities.
I know that I’m asking way too much here. It would just be nice if someone just picked up the tab for speech therapy, but I thought I would throw that one out there.

We’re really fortunate here in Ontario that there are all sorts of accommodation for special needs children in daycare (youngest’s daycare staff received special training and respite staffing to cover their “away time” for that purpose). We still had to cover the costs of daycare ourselves since we didn’t qualify for subsidies, but it was a lot easier to do so knowing that she was getting the best possible support.

I just heard that Disaboom just brought on Barack Obama http://www.disaboom.com/barackobama/
to answer questions regarding his stance on issues related to disability.
