The before pictures are here. Cabinets are being installed right now. We salvaged the front door from a neighbor who was throwing it away. We refinished it and had the contractor put it in for us. The original lock and hardware are now in, too. I’ll show you the final look soon.
The ceiling in the kitchen is ten feet. Before we started the work, the ceiling was so low that I could jump up and hit it. The ten foot ceilings were hiding under three different layers of cardboard ceilings.
We’ve had a series of unexpected expenses with the renovation work. We just got hit with a $650 bill for repair of termite damage that was hiding behind the sheet rock.
The plumbing problems added another $3,000. The waste pipes in the basement had been put in by the homeowner in the 70s. He had just stuck pipes together without any sealant. He also made a very sharp turn in the waste pipe, so stuff was getting stuck in the elbow. When the plumber removed the pipe, he called Steve downstairs to show him a surprise — Ian’s "freshly baked loaf" (Steve’s fun word). The plumber had to redo everything in the basement.
More picture to come.

Your kid are cuties :-).

It`s really nice to hear about people who have imagination and are eager to alter the things around them. Congratulations to you, and I wish a lot of persistance to finish your work!I think I have to figure up something as well because the home renovation became a more common phenomenon recently in our neighbourhoods in Toronto. The reason is probably we are waiting for the spring with new energies.
