New Hampshire

McCain’s got NH. It’s too close to call for the Democrats yet. You can keep hitting refresh on the CNN results.

Pundits are saying that this was the lifesaver that McCain needed to stay in the race, that Republicans always ultimately go with the establishment candidate, that this is a victory for the surge. Thompson and Giuliani appear to be in big trouble. I think that Romney’s and Huckabee’s loss also says New England isn’t ready for a Mormon and Baptist.

Lots of rumors about the Clinton campaign. Are Begala and Carville coming back? Is Bill being too aggressive against Obama?

Looks like Clinton is doing better with women voters in NH than she did in Iowa. Did the tears help her out?

UPDATE: CNN just called it for Hillary.

Great concession speech from Obama. Hillary’s okay. She thanks NH for giving her voice back.

  1. Here’s Lileks on McCain:
“I like John McCain. He seems like the sort of guy you could have a beer with, right up to the moment where he smashes the bottle on the table and jams it in your face over something you said six years ago.”

  2. I don’t think that it’s that New England isn’t ready for a Mormon. I think it’s that Romney is actually disliked around here. A lot of NH people have ties to Massachusetts and remember Romney well.
Btw, I’m finding it hilarious that a friend of mine who is a Mormon can’t stand Romney and thinks he is creepy-looking. Meanwhile, I keep defending Romney against all the anti-Mormon attacks (and to be honest, if someone forced me at gunpoint to vote for a Republican, he’s the one I’d vote for). From my perspective, if we elect a Mormon, it’s one step closer to electing a atheist someday. Yes, it’s a pipe dream!

  3. Hillary would beat McCain.
    McCain would beat Obama.
Huckabee would beat Obama, and might, just might, beat Hillary.
Obama and Hillary are weak candidates, as is Edwards, for that matter. I think Hillary would make the best president, hopefully her sucking up to the hawks is only positioning.
