Yesterday, a steamy geyser erupted on the east side of Manhattan. My husband works in mid-town, but on the west side, so he wasn’t effected. He didn’t even mention it when he walked in the door at 7:30. I only heard about the mess when I flipped on the TV at 8:00.
On the news, a woman gave her eye witness experience of the explosion. She said that the first thing that everyone in her office thought was "it’s another 9/11". New Yorkers will never get over the trauma of that date. And with all the recent near misses in London, everyone is a little tense.
After we recover from the shock, the next questions we’re going to ask is how many other century old pipes are ready to blow in Manhattan. The city infrastructure, especially the water system, was put in by the city bosses at the turn of the century. Experts have been predicting a doom for years.
I hope all New York blog readers are okay.
