Between yesterday's stomach virus and the weekend activities, I was unable to flip on the computer for a couple of days. There's something scary about turning on your computer after a two day hiatus. 90 e-mails. Spam in the comment section. Unread articles. Catch-up time. But my stomach is still not totally happy, so I'm going slowly.
I limped into Ian's school this morning for his IEP meeting. We decided to send him to the Warehouse for Unruly Children for next year. The new school promises to mainstream him for part of the day and to work closely with parents, so it may work out. As part of this transition to Kindergarten process, he's been tested to death in the past month. He's been evaluated for IQ, school readiness, physical skills, fine motor skills, and speech. I finally received the evaluations on Friday and spent the weekend reviewing the material.
I guess he wasn't that cooperative. The testers couldn't figure out much, because he refused to answer their questions after a while and was doing things like turning the lights on and off in the testing room. They did find that he is in the 99.6th percentile for reading, which puts him at a 2nd grade level. That's useful information, which they can use at his next school.
The IEP was relatively unstressful, because the new school will take over and write their own learning goals in September. We reviewed a 40 page report about his deficits. The administration has to emphasize his deficits in order to justify the costs for the new program. I've gotten rather steely about this whole thing, so I didn't mist up like I used to.
I'm off to catch up with the 90 e-mails and the unread Times. A proper post after a nap.
