Oscar Buzz

We’re gradually getting back to seeing movies in the theater again, though not as regularly as we would like.  We managed to see two movies, Borat and Prairie Home Companion, that are getting Oscar buzz, but are waiting for the most of them on DVD.  I’m a big fan of Almodovar, so Volver is top on the list.

I guess Brad Pitt did some good work in Babel, so that might be good.  This article reminded me how much I really liked a River Runs Through It.  Still, I would prefer if he was in a film looking like this…. 164033

The Times provided excerpts from some of the films that are expected to clean up.  Liked this line from Little Miss Sunshine.  Dwayne, an anti-social teenager, complains to the Steve Carell character that he’s miserable.  Carell said that Proust always believed that he learned the most when he was depressed; the years that he was happy were worthless.  "So, if you go to sleep until you’re 18 …(scoffs)… Think of all the suffering you’d miss! High school’s your prime suffering years. You don’t get better suffering than that! Unless you go into academia, but that’s a whole different story."
