Office Space

I’m getting ready for the new semester. Of course, details about my job will be off limits here for obvious reasons. But I did want to share my joy of having an office. I haven’t had my own office, since… oh, I can’t remember. For ages, I’ve been working at home or relegated to the adjunct office — some broom closet where they stack the broken computers.

Yesterday, I went in and got my key. I mapped my way from the office to the bookstore, the cafeteria, ATM. Classes don’t start for another couple weeks, so the halls were empty. I worked for a couple of hours on lectures and then read the paper in the cafeteria. I comtemplating moving all my books and files to this office and quit working at home entirely. I would keep a stricter line between work time and everything else.

Though I have a very decent home office with windows and non-florescent lighting, I’m still happy to be out of the house. I like a little background noise and friendly interruptions when I’m working. The quiet in the house has been bothering me lately. We’ll see how things go, but right now, I’m amused.

(I’m on a work space jag this week. Got another couple posts on the topic.)
