Heeey. I’m back. Got a good night sleep, half a pot of coffee, and two mint, double stuffed Oreos in me. Oreos – part of a nutritious breakfast.
I had terrible insomnia on Sunday night. Couldn’t sleep worth a damn. During the day, Steve took the boys for a hike through the Tenafly Nature Preserve, so I had the whole day to prepare lectures. I only knocked off work at around 9:30, but then I was too wired too sleep. I kept writing outlines in my head. I couldn’t turn off. At 1:00, I flipped the computer back on and played solitaire for a while. Eventually, I was bored enough to sleep.
Yesterday, I was too tired to do anything, but obsess and waste time. The childcare situation is still up in the air. I’m not entirely secure with the arrangements for either of the kids for next semester. So, I spent hours of time just worrying about daycare. That worry quickly segued to what’s going to happen to Ian, which is always a favorite way to beat myself up. Thank God for Google, the best enabler for stressed out parents. I plugged in “speech delay,” “speech delay and early reader,” “special education new jersey daycare,” “special education back stabbing asshole administrators.” Oh, the hours of enjoyment that brought.
I often think that the best job in the world must be the guy who keeps track of all the search strings that are plugged into Google. The secret obsessions and fears that people whisper into their computers late at night looking for answers from the modern Oracle of Delphi. What a window into the madness of men! I get a glimpse of the freaky search strings through the referral list in sitemeter, and I can only guess at what that guy at Google must find.
Anyhow, much more well rested now. Much to do today, but sleep shouldn’t be a problem tonight. I’m guaranteed some down time. My brother’s picking me up for a drink at the local Irish pub. Guinness is good for me.

Here’s my story of woe: got to campus yesterday at 6:30am (Towson U.), first final at 8am, second at 12:30pm, third at 7:30. After the final final of the day — one more Thursday — went to the bar on the ground floor with some of my classmates, finally got home at midnight. Gah.
