I’m actually still watching Dan and Matt vblogging. I have to admit that I fast forwarded to their discussion about TV. Who cares about crazy men in Korea and big bombs? I want to hear what they have to say about Veronica Mars.
Matt and Dan say that TV shows on DVD have helped spur the popularity of shows like Veronica Mars and Six Feet Under. The truly crazy fans got hooked on these shows by watching the DVDs, rather than catching them live. Many shows are now available on line. There’s also YouTube where you can catch the highlights of shows. Dan points out that these multiple methods of viewing TV now make it difficult measure ratings.
I actually have been watching TV the old fashioned way — either on the tread mill at at the gym or on the sofa with a pint of ice cream. But the kids are staying up later than they used to and we’re getting increasingly busy, so we’ve been talking about getting TIVO.
Lost and House are still favorites around here. CSI jumped the shark last night with the talking corpses. I’m mildly into Prison Break.
I have some guilty pleasures, too. The best one is Flavor of Love on VH1. Flavor Flav, whom someone once compared to a California Raisin, looks for love and bootie on this reality show. The girls, Buck Naked, Deelishis, and Bootz, all compete in various challenges to win a private date with their man at KFC and then, hopefully, are handed a clock at the end of the evening. There are some excellent cat fights with necks bobbing and nails flashing. Sporting a grill on his teeth, Flav is surprisingly smart and warm. I may have a little crush.
I also can’t help but watch American’s Top Model, because that Tyra Banks is such a train wreck. She puts these poor, hungry girls in an apartment plastered with poster sized photographs of herself everywhere. She tries to convince us every week that being a model is really important work. It’s truly amazing.
Mostly, we’re just biding time until Entourage, Rome, or Big Love returns.

I had to check Bloglines and make sure I was reading the right blog. Did you say you have a little crush on Flavor Flav ? Laura, that’s nothing but the couch and the ice cream talking. You were in your happy place, so he looked better than usual.
J Harvey does a great recap of Flav on A Socialite’s Life. I don’t watch Flav, as my reality tv guilty pleasure is Project Runway. J Harvey does a great one on that too.

I am probably one of the biggest Veronica Mars fans out there (waves hi to Mo). But the really *crazy* fans actually have been crazy since Season 1 was airing live. *points to self* TWOP is a hotbed of the fan intensity. Now, granted, there are a lot of people who became hooked by the DVDs, but a lot of what people view as craziness/intensity among fans (hiring a plane to fly a banner over LA) (selling merchandise: http://www.cafepress.com/cloudwatchers) (buying DVDs for public libraries: http://www.watchveronicamars.net/dvd_drive/) are people who were crazy about the show in Season 1.
Just a data point from someone who watched the pilot about 4 times (live) the first week it was on and hasn’t looked back. 🙂

Oh, yeah. Project Runway, too. Though, like Mo, I was disappointed with the last episode. Totally filler.
I’m going to have do the Veronica Mars/DVD thing like all the other hip kids.

Those big photos of Tyra freak me out. Actually, the whole Tyra worship thing freaks me out (not that I think they all worship her so much as she has this insane need to think everyone worships her).

I was so crushed at the end of Rome last season. What will they do with my darling Lucius this time around? Ugh… it still hurts.
And speaking of Tivo, we got a machine for our wedding, but it sits unused because we’re squabbling over paying $13.95 per month for something everybody seems to love, but we’ve managed to live without all this time. Still, given my ridiculous bed time due to teaching, it does make sense… Why did they take away all those good deals?

Have you checked out Battlestar Galactica? I’m watching that and Ugly Betty this year, as keeping half an eye on Studio 60. But BSG is awesome.
