I’ve been writing a paper for nine hours straight today. I’m beginning to get a little light headed. Let’s see if I have any brain cells left to write a simple blog post.
My husband has been a champ doing the most of the childcare responsibilities this rainy weekend and warming up some nice Trader Joe burritos for dinner. He’ll be completely in charge for three days at the end of the week, while I go off the political nerd conference. Ah, it’s good for him.
Saturday evening was my one reprieve from paper writing. Old buddy Suze came over for barbecue and beer. Steve had some microbrew stuff that he tried out on us. I don’t know. It tasted like beer to me. It’s a lucky thing that I don’t have a very sophisticated beer and wine palate. I am just fine with a $7 bottle of wine. Suze always says that there’s nothing wrong with two buck chuck from Trader Joe’s.
We got sucked into watching Eight Below with the kids for a while. It’s a Disney movie about sled dogs in Antarctica. Steve said that he wanted to go to Antarctica. I wanted to go for the parkas. Suze didn’t show much interest at all in the frozen continent.
Then Suze and I discussed various money-making schemes that use the Internet. I had just read an article in Business 2.0 about how the FARK guy is making $600,000 a month off his site. We want a piece of that. Might even be able to afford opinions on wine.
We talked about books and magazines. Suze isn’t happy with the new crop of novels. I liked the last issue of the New Yorker and will probably generate posts about it tomorrow.
We discussed what color shirt will go with my new brown pants, the fun of buying school supplies, and the sexual orientation of various people we know — the usual lazy conversation that has amused us for twenty years.
I’ve got a couple of shortish posts coming this week. The melange of political and personal business that I ramble on about in real life is regurgitated back to you with hyperlinks and a comment section.
