I’m taking off for a week. We’re driving down to North Carolina tomorrow morning. Just made reservations at a little motel at Chincoteague, Va, which should be our midway point. I’m hoping to see some wild ponies and just chill out. Well, I’ll chill out as much as I can while on vacation with relatives and a sensory disfunctional child. I’m on my second martini. I expect that this buzz will continue for the next eight days.
I have some drafts of blog posts on the sidelines, but nothing worthy of hitting the publish button yet. It might just be better to wait until I come back with a fresh mind and a kinder disposition.
I’ve packed some political science journals to read as the kids watch their DVDs in the backseats, as well as some more fun books. I’ll grab a girlie fashion mag on the way out of town.
While I’m gone, please read through some old archives. If you’re adventurous, look through old Apt.11D. Tell me if you find anything good. I’m never quite sure what I’m doing right (or wrong) here, so I always appreciate the input. There’s also some fabuloso blogs on my sidebar. Tell me which ones you like best.
Cheers, Laura.

Enjoy your trip – it’s hot here (in NC) . . .

Just remember: “Chincoteague” is Indian for “Lots of mosquitos” and “Assateague” is Indian for “Even more mosquitos.”
Have fun.

Have a good trip!
I’ll be back (if I find the time off from the dissertation) with thoughts about your archives, but meanwhile, our blogrolls overlap a bit. My favorites in your list are: ABD Mom, Geeky Mom, Jo(e)- of course!!, Mrs. Coulter, Raising WEG, and this woman’s work (Dawn’s one of my favorite bloggers ever).
(I read Dooce and Bitch Ph.D. only occasionally, but they’re great)

You, Laura, are a wicked woman, pointing me to those archives. After reading them, I am fascinated by the document of your life this blog provides: your life, thought out loud and in public for all these years. It’s motivated me to add to my journal.
I had to resist leaving comments on two-year-old threads. But, just to show off (it’s OK, I’m not a stalker, and am perfectly normal) — what’s up with that postnup, you know, the one that charges extra for the floosie whose name ends with an “i”? Has Steve signed it yet?
bj (whose name ends with an i, but is not a floozy, and the name isn’t a floozy name either, just showing how bad stereotypes can be 🙂

PS: my postnup is going to charge extra for floosies with names that end in “a.”

heh. I’m glad you liked the archives, bj, and you’ve gotten back to your own journal. It’s funny, but I have never been able to keep a private journal more than a week or two. I guess I’m a natural exhibitionist, but I’ve been at this for almost three years now. I hope my kids enjoy reading this stuff in the future.
Glad you reminded me about the postnup. I’m actually really bad about doing those legal, boring things. We just signed our wills a few weeks ago. I still think it’s a very, very, very good idea and am going to return to this conversation again. My husband thanks you.
