Live In Concert

My, my. I’m having a lovely week here. Got into a fight with the school district. Got attacked by the nefarious spammers. All I need is a traffic ticket. Oh, that happened, too.

OK, I need this blog to lift my spirits. Let’s talk music. I rarely get to see live music anymore, but I still love reading about it.

Joan Jett is still looking fine.

And this link is for Harry — Rufus Wainwright plays Judy Garland. This is the most hyped concert in ages. Wish I was there.

  1. I love the original Riot Grrl Joan Jett. There is an excellent documentary out on Showtime about the Runaways that had all the band members except Joan. No word on why she chose not to participate. The Runaways seemed like a hellish experience (especially for her) that it is amazing she emerged with such good humor or even at all. Looking back, her Crimson and Clover and French Song where lightyears ahead of their time in terms of the their coded and not so coded messages. Rock on, Joan!

  2. Ahh, Joan…
She and the Blackhearts were my first ever concert, at Six Flags over Georgia. It’s still one of my fondest musical memories, particularly the over the head hand clapping bit during “I love rock and roll”.
How come she was so much older and tougher than me then, but is looking younger (but still much tougher) now?

  3. Surely the most hyped concert in ages is the Springsteen Seeger Sessions farrago. Or so it seemed out here, anyway. And by the end of the concert, we were the only ones not wearing a Seeger Sessions t-shirt.

  4. On the other end of hyped-ness, I just found out that I missed a concert an hour away that I would absolutely have gone to–Janis Ian.

  5. Was there a post about the traffic ticket? I didn’t see it.
I’ve been driving for ten years. I’ve been pulled over numerous times for speeding, but I’ve always gotten repair orders, warnings, and once a citation for failing to have my registration (I’d had it in my wallet, then taken it out to dry after an unfortunate incident involving a washing machine, and forgotten to put it back in), but I never recieved a ticket … until last November. State Troopers on 83, 74 in a 55. Ouch. But I went to court, got the costs reduced, and probation before judgement. If I keep my driving record clean of moving violations for a year from the ticket date, it won’t show on my record.
Traffic court sucked. First time I’d ever gone. Hopefully the last. Hope your ticket works out at least as well as mine did.

  6. So jealous that you saw Joan back in the day, reuben. I never saw her, but I think I saw the Kinks three times. They haven’t quite lasted the test of time like Joan has. Damn, she looks good.
I have read so much about this Rufus show. The press is loving it. More than Springsteen/Seeger? I don’t know. In New York, this show is big, big, big. He’s on the cover of every magazine.
Thanks, snay. I hope I beat it, too, or at least get a lesser sentence. My insurance is going to sky rocket.
