Belle Two, Eugene Zero

Eugene Volokh writes that laws which prohibit unwanted sexual touching are based on the fear of involuntary sexual arousal on the part of the victim. Belle Waring writes, “And I’m sorry to say, that’s just crazy talk.” It’s a good thing that I don’t have to get all mad in the face and huffy, because Belle does it for me. It’s a good read. Then Volokh sort of backs off, but not enough for Belle (and myself).

As I was reading Volokh’s post, I got the overwhelming feeling that he had absolutely no clue how often these things happen and how absolutely disgusting the victim feels afterwards.

Belle writes, “It shows an extraordinary blindness to the actual reality of women’s lives to focus on the unwanted sexual arousal aspect of unwanted touching at the expense of the forced assistance in sexual gratification aspect. Really, really blind. I invite male CT readers to just go around and start asking women they know if anyone has ever felt them up on public transit, or in a crowded mall, or a bar. I’m waiting. What, all of them?! That almost sounds like a serious societal problem we should do something about! Something like…embracing feminism.”
