In Sunday’s magazine, Ann Hulbert discusses the recent time use studies and the problems with categorizing childcare. Is it work or leisure? What about those 1/2 hours here and there of free time, while the kids are at karate? Should that really be considered leisure time?

I do think Hulbert’s notion of “discretionary” time rather than leisure time is a good one.

I liked her point that parenting is a higher status endeavor now that more guys are doing it. It also pisses me off.
