We are moving in hyperdrive around here lately. With daylight savings time (yes, the kids are sleeping later) and a two day hangover, I was already off balance on Monday. Add one birthday party, two half days, one trip the Apple ‘geniuses’, one morning of furious backups, and two open house nights. All this has made me a shoddy blogger this week.
In place of school in yesterday afternoon, the PTA organized a movie trip to see Ice Age 2: The Meltdown. The theater had us wait outside for a little too long and the kids rebelled. Screaming "Let us in. Let us in," 60 kids banged on the doors until management opened up. Another mother and I discussed the benefits of self medicating.
This was Ian’s first movie, so I was a little worried that it would be too loud or scary for him, but he did okay. He preferred sitting on the folding chairs in the back, so he could jump around while watching, but that was fine. Of course, he favorite part was the credits. Moving words are thrilling.
For the rest of the world who is less interested in moving words, the movie was pretty good. The Charlie Chaplin-like squirrel silently seeking the acorn is more of a major character in this film. It’s funny, but doesn’t really drive the plot. Manny the mammoth and his buddies meet another mammoth, Queen Latifah, who thinks she’s a possum. This new herd avoids the flood from the melting ice. They work together and celebrate their differences, while learning to like themselves. Life is a gorgeous mozaic.
Not so much with the plot, but still some great animation and great voice overs (John Leguizamo and Ray Romano rule).

Sitting in the back, jumping around, watching the credits? I think Ian may have a career as a movie producer in his future.

Youngest was shrieking with joy at every one of the Scrat sequences and babbled aloud as she bounced in her seat at every exciting scene. I think she’s now working out how to remake the movie in anime-style (one of her many obsessions) so I hear more babbles and laughter coming from her bedroom!
