Three Wives Club

We’ve been watching Bill get it on with his three wives on Big Love. And you think that Marmite is birth control? Wait until you check out this show.

Bill and the wives are members of a Mormon splinter group committed to polygamy. Instead of hanging out on the compound along with the other polygamists, they try to blend into a suburban development and hide their unique marriage from the neighbors. Bill is always worried that their secret will become public and put his business in jeopardy. It’s very stressful.

There’s also all the interfamily stress. They have to figure out how to deal out money equally and what to do with the creepy compound people. And somebody is trying to poison grandpa.

But the biggest problem is who gets Bill’s penis for the night. If it’s Wife A’s night, does Wife B still get a morning quickie? What if Wife C is a screamer? Bill’s penis can’t take the pressure and needs some viagra.

Big problems on Big Love.

  1. I am really enjoying Big Love. It’s well written and the actors are interesting, and it’s a life so different from mine that I am compelled by it. I think it will be sucessful for that reason, just like the Sopranos. Most of us can only fantasize what life must be like inside the mob or a polygamous family.
I’ve written a couple of posts about how it has little “in” moments for those who are familiar with Mormon culture.
I think Bill is going to end up with a heart attack from popping so damn much Viagra.

  2. The series doesn’t really explain why they have gone and married each other. Everyone looks miserable. Even sex is a chore. An icky one, too. But Bill doesn’t seem to be that religious, which could explain why he has three wives. He isn’t a perv. I don’t get it.

  3. Bill was raised polygamist, as was Nikki. Barb was just a Mormon. We haven’t heard much about Margene’s history. She did say in this last episode that she had wanted to be part of this family. I think they married each other because ultimately they believe in the “principle.” I don’t think sex is a chore for anyone, including Bill (now that he has the little blue pill). I think he is a middle-aged man having E.D. problems, which judging from commercials is more common than I realized. They have actually had conversations about how they missed church. But they don’t want to go to Roman’s church, and they would be under too much scruitny in the mainstream LDS church. Plus we have seen Bill pray and ask for guidance. Ultimately I think we will see they are all there because they love each other and they believe it’s the right thing to do. Can you tell I miss my film analysis classes? Help, I need a life.

  4. Sorry, but having more kids won’t make it easier. HOWEVER, if your experience is like my mother’s (I’m one of 9 children), it wouldn’t make it much harder either. She says that after 3, it didn’t get any busier.
