For me, blogging has always been about the words. I started blogging a couple of years ago just to practice writing and never aimed to put together a slick internet product complete with topical photographs. There’s nothing wrong with good graphics. In fact, beautiful design is important to me, but it’s not what I am going for on this blog. [She scans the layout of the blog and says “duh.”]
I may have chosen a poor medium to celebrate the good word. The internet page is made happiest by large photos and spare words. Some of the most interesting essays go unread in the blogosphere, because their length scares away the average blog skimmer who loathes to press the “Pg Dn” key.
Anyhow, I’m tired tonight, and I’m giving you pictures. Tomorrow – a long essay about blogging.
Got a haircut.
The snow storm started, and we hunkered down with art projects and video games.
When the snow stopped, we ventured outside. Ian tastes the snow.
Twenty inches.
By mid afternoon, the snow plow had cleared away just enough snow to make the street slick with ice and to form a sledding mound at the ends of the street. The kids were out for hours.
After the mittens and snow pants were peeled off …
I made a large dinner.

Fantastic glimpse into your life, Laura, thank you! Strangely satisfying to finally see what you look like – sort of like listening to a radio DJ for years and then seeing their face in the paper unexpectedly.
Looking forward to your long post about blogging…

Wow, mah-velous hair, Laura! Last time I saw you, didn’t you have shoulder-length curly hair? Your hair looks so long and straight.

Your hair doesn’t look quite as red as I remembered it from APSA a couple of years back, Laura….weird lighting in the room, perhaps?
By the way, how much snow did you get in your part of New Jersey, total? They say that the snowfall in Central Park was the most ever recorded.

You look fabulous! Sorry we missed the eats last night. I thought I had the puke thing you had last weekend; thankfully, there was no puking here. Can’t wait to see you, Steve, and the boys this weekend.

Tammy – Glad that you didn’t get the pukekeepsies. That really sucked.
Russell — It’s still red. Bad lighting and dirty mirror. The city got 26 inches and I think we got an inch or two less. Still it was great fun. Just came back from the most excellent sledding. I remember that wonderful post you wrote about experiencing snow again. I hope you’re still enjoying it.

Tragically, Laura, the snow was all gone by Christmas. Since then, we’ve had the occasional flurry, a half-inch here or there, but nothing substantive–mostly just cold, grey winds. And I was so happy to have real winters again back in December! What was I thinking….

I love the way the photos make a narrative of their own. Thanks.
