Oh, c’mon, which of your kids do you love more?
BBC version is godlike, but the US version has gotten really good.
Okay, I’m gonna be pedantic here for a minute. It’s really best if you think of them as separate shows — don’t think of it as the UK original and a US copy. The US version has gone in its own direction, and this year, a very good cast has gotten even better.
They’re really apples and oranges now, despite a few lingering similarities (the Jim-Pam romance is like Dawn and Tim, etc.) So don’t make me pick between ’em. Just don’t!
Okay, I pick the Brit version (that last scene between Dawn and Tim in British Office Christmas special was just…. sniff… amazing). But don’t take that as an excuse not to watch the US show. It’s very good.
I was just starting to get into the US version of “The Office”. Quite funny and has a terrific cast.
Then – a mistake. That I made. I rented the BBC version from the local library. (I had already seen it but wanted to watch it again.)
Oh dear. The British really do put us in the shade. So, so much better. And they don’t hit you over the head with some of the plot and humor.
Still, the US version is worth seeing, I do get laughs (big, out-loud ones) pretty consistently.
Does anyone else think the guy who plays the “Tim” character is *just perfect* for the role? Quite funny and he plays it just right (underplayed).
Apples and oranges, both terrific. Beeb version is darker and dirtier, and I think it centers more on the boss than the U.S. version.
Not sure how long the U.S. version can drag out the Jim-Pam storyline, though. The Beeb version resolved it brilliantly in the series, then reopened it for the reunion (which I haven’t yet seen).
I haven’t seen the BBC version yet, but I don’t know when I’ve laughed as hard at an episode of a sitcom as I did during the diversity workshop episode. Steve Carrell wearing the “Martin Luther King” sign on his forehead – I can’t believe there’s anything funnier than that.
Please. BBC hands down. Besides having the worse version, NBC deserves no credit for making a pale imitation of something good instead of coming up with something original on their own.

BBC wins!
Both Tim/Jim are great as they smirk into the camera. I have a weakness for cute, geeky guys, but U.S. Jim is slightly cuter.
The US version is a little more believable, but the UK version is funnier. The UK office toady is a riot — beady eyes and gun obsessed. Gervais is brilliant.
Mo — Geeky husband noted that there was a reference to a paper mill in slough in Lost.
bbc. Gervis is God.

(Sorry, I meant to specify “the U.S. Tim”. Whose name is Jim. Played by John Krasinski.)
(Although obv. Brit Tim is outstanding as well.)

I prefer the BBC version because no one makes me as uncomfortable as Ricky Gervais.

Jay – NBC seems to have stolen “Phoenix Nights” as well: “My Name is Earl”.

BBC, definitely. So much more evil.

I also vote for BBC. The US one is pretty good but nothing can beat the BBC version. I heart Tim!

Laura – glad there was closure to this thread and a winner declared.
The ambiguity was killing me.
