It’s was the last day of our vacation. Tomorrow Steve goes back to the office. Jonah and Ian go to school. And I will squeeze in two hours of writing on a project that I can’t decide is good or not. You know, a wise man once said that there is a fine line between clever and stupid.
We really had a good run of it. We had an excellent brunch on New Year’s morning with 11 friends and 12 squirts. The kids all did a great job of keeping to themselves, so we ate quiche and drank mimosas for 4 hours straight.
Somewhat spontaneously, we decided to look at armor at the Met museum this morning. We packed up the kids and drove into New York. Clear sailing all the way down the FDR Drive with FUV on the radio playing Lucinda Williams. We found a parking spot a block away from the museum, which should have been a clue that our luck was about to peter out.
Duh! Museums are closed on Mondays.
Crap. Change of plans. We headed over to a playground in Central Park. It was a cool one with pyramids for the kids to climb on (and to slip on and shatter their jaws). Jonah found a rope to swing on, and Steve pushed Ian on a tire swing. More swinging, Daddy. More swinging. I turned and saw the boy vomit orange puke down his coat and through the center of the tire swing.
Trip over.
Later that afternoon, as Ian slept off the twisty-pukes, I started back on my clever-stupid project. Vacation over.
