Just some random good moments from yesterday…
As Jonah reached into the front of the car to retrieve his double sided ax to complete his gladiator costume, his first tooth fell out. He announced its loss with a shout of joy. He glowed as he realized that he had finally joined the ranks of big kids. We plugged the hole with a tissue, and he ran off to school a man. A gladiator.
Sadly, the tooth was swallowed up the black hole of gunk that exists between the front and back seats of the car. But a long winded letter explaining the problem to the tooth fairy sufficed and Jonah received $5. Yeah, I only got a dime also. Inflation.
He’s been playing around with the small pit in his gums. The tongue explores the wet hole and the new peaked tooth that’s arriving in an incorrect place. Braces, my dear.
After school, I took the kids for their tricks and treats. Jonah attacked the job of gathering the goods and keeping up with his friends with intensity and tunnel vision. Staying with his mom and his more methodical brother was a low priority. After loudly expressed warnings were issued, he chilled.
Steve came home with flowers, and we did late night treat gathering together.
Jonah, exhausted from tooth manhood and competitive trick or treating, collapsed on the sofa. Steve gave Ian a bath. In the tub, Ian individually sunkb his many plastic animals in the tub. After each one was submerged, he said “oh God” with the same tone of horror and disgust that I use after Jonah has emptied a sneaker full of dirt onto the kitchen floor. It’s good to hear him talking, but I have to start to curb my potty mouth.
This morning, Steve reminded me about the reason for the flowers. 10 years since our first date.
